The South Greenville Fire District held its annual Safety Day to bring the community together as part of Fire Prevention Month.
October has been designated as National Fire Prevention Month and many local fire departments are working to connect with their communities and spread fire safety tips.
On Thursday, South Greenville Fire District said they expected at least 2,000 people to attend their second-annual Safety Day. The event is held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. at 8305 Augusta Road in Pelzer.
The fire district is offering activities for children, a medical helicopter was available for tours, vendors from all over Greenville County and the opportunity for community members to interact with first responders.
“We like to bring the community together and to be more proactive within the community,” said master firefighter Jeremy Lathem. “We try to go an extra step to bring fire prevention to the front of people’s mind, and to open our doors to show that we’re always available in our community”
FOX Carolina’s Nicole Papay was at the event to help out.
